Customers who have stayed
Most of our customers are Finnish technology and medical device companies that do not want their names made public. That is why we tell our current customers' stories without names – but in concrete terms.
Medical device manufacturer: over 20 years with the same manufacturer
Starting point
A Finnish medical device manufacturer needed a manufacturer to handle the device's electronics and the assembly of the finished device – and one that would still be around when the device had been on the market for years.
What we do
We assemble and solder the device's circuit boards, program the firmware and assemble the control units into their enclosures. We also assemble the device's other structures. Every unit gets a serial number, and the finished devices are tested before delivery, electrical safety tests included.
Over the years, product revisions, component changes and test changes have been handled together with the customer. Component change and discontinuation notices come to us directly from distributors, so parts going obsolete are spotted in time.
Why the cooperation continues
The customer talks directly with production, changes are taken into production in a controlled way, and our ISO 13485 certified quality system supports the customer's own medical device regulatory work.
IoT device maker: many variants, small batches
Starting point
A Finnish IoT company has one PCB platform and many product variants: different sensors, radio technologies and antennas for different end customers. Orders come in several small batches, and the company has bought some of the key components, such as radio modules, itself.
What we do
We build the variants on the same PCB according to the customer's BOM variants, from batches of ten to several hundred. We keep the customer's own radio modules and chips in a customer-specific stock and source the other components and the PCBs ourselves.
Why it works
There is no minimum order quantity, so even a small variant is worth building. When new orders build up, the customer sends a list of variants and quantities, and we quote each one.
Nokia chargers: 5.5 million units
What we did
In 1994 Polarcomp signed a partnership agreement with Salcomp to manufacture Nokia mobile phone chargers. In 1995 a full-scale assembly line started up, on which the chargers were assembled from components into finished products. By 2001, 5.5 million had been manufactured, and production employed up to 90 people at its peak.
What it means for you today
The premises, lines and processes were sized for million-unit series, and they are still in use. That is why a new series does not have to queue, and volume can grow without a new factory.
Base station power supplies: from chargers to more demanding power electronics
What we did
When Salcomp moved charger production to China in 2002, the assembly line moved on to diverse orders from different industries. One of the most significant contracts in 2002–2005 was the manufacture of power supplies for Nokia base stations.
What remains
Through-hole assembly and wave soldering of power electronics are still our strengths, and power supplies are still one of the industries we manufacture for.
Over the years, the small things make the difference
Two messages from contact persons at a Finnish technology company: one about a delivery, the other about how a complaint was handled.
“Thank you for the quick delivery time!”
“Thank you for the quick investigation and for filling in the complaint form.”
Would you like to hear it directly from a customer?
Ask for a reference: we will ask our customer for permission and, if they agree, arrange a call. You are also welcome to come and see production in Kemijärvi.
