Why companies re-tender their contract manufacturer

Switching manufacturers rarely comes down to a single issue. Usually it is one of these — and these are exactly what our operations are built around.

Small batches get deprioritised

At large EMS providers, small and medium volumes compete for capacity with major accounts. We have no minimum order quantity, and prototypes, small batches and series production run through the same production planning.

Lead times keep slipping

We manufacture everything in our own facility in Kemijärvi, Finland, so production, quality and schedules are under our direct control. Lead time is approximately one week from when the required components are with us.

Price and total cost

A comparison quote shows what the same product costs with us. Total cost also includes logistics, quality costs and inventory — not just the unit price.

No real point of contact

Our customers talk directly with production and sales. Changes, component substitutions and schedules are agreed quickly.

Rising quality requirements

ISO 13485:2016 certified quality management, FeinFocus X-ray inspection and functional testing, including for medical devices.

Your supplier was acquired or changed strategy

Industry consolidation can change priorities and minimum order quantities. We have manufactured electronics as an independent Finnish company since 1994.

What we need for a comparison quote

A bill of materials (BOM) and an estimated annual volume are usually enough for an initial estimate. For a detailed quote we review the full manufacturing data package.

We can sign a non-disclosure agreement before you share your data.

  • Bill of materials (BOM) with manufacturer part numbers and approved alternates
  • PCB fabrication files (Gerber or ODB++)
  • Pick-and-place / centroid file
  • Assembly drawings and any mechanical drawings
  • Test instructions with pass/fail criteria, programming files
  • Estimated annual volume and typical batch size
  • Optionally your current price level for a direct comparison

How a production transfer works

A transfer is an engineering task, not just logistics. We proceed step by step so your deliveries are not interrupted.

1. Contact and data package
Tell us about the product and volumes via the form or by phone. If needed, we sign an NDA and receive the manufacturing data.
2. Review and comparison quote
We check manufacturability, component availability and documentation gaps. You receive a quote and a schedule estimate for the transfer within one week.
3. Production preparation
Component sourcing, placement programs, stencils and test setup. Customer-owned test equipment can be taken into use.
4. Pilot run and first article inspection
We build a pilot batch that is inspected and tested together with you before series production is approved.
5. Series production
Production continues with agreed batch sizes and lead times, with traceability and quality assurance under our ISO 13485:2016 system.

Example: a typical transfer timeline

An illustrative example of how a transfer progresses week by week. The actual schedule depends on the product and, above all, on component availability.

Week 0
You send the product BOM and estimated annual volume via the form. If needed, we sign an NDA.
Week 1
You receive a comparison quote and an estimate of component availability.
Order and components
We source the components. You can also supply components already purchased from your current manufacturer, as well as your own test equipment.
About one week after components
The pilot batch is completed and inspected together with you.
After approval
Series deliveries with a lead time of about one week from when the components are with us. No minimum order quantity.

Tips for a low-risk supplier switch

Most delays come from incomplete documentation and rushing the transfer. Check these before terminating your current agreement.

Keep the old supplier running

Order a sufficient buffer stock from your current manufacturer or run production in parallel until the pilot batch is approved.

Check the contract and ownership

Confirm the notice period and who owns stencils, test fixtures, programming equipment and components already purchased.

Request up-to-date documentation

Manufacturers accumulate knowledge that is never written down: approved component substitutions, process adjustments and test software versions. Ask for them in writing.

A bill of materials (BOM) and an estimated annual volume are usually enough for an initial estimate. A detailed quote also requires PCB fabrication files (Gerber or ODB++), a pick-and-place file, assembly drawings and test instructions.
We respond to quote requests within one week of receiving the product data (at minimum a BOM and estimated annual volume).
No. We have no minimum order quantity (MOQ), so we manufacture single prototypes, small batches and large series.
Quotes are provided within one week. The manufacturing lead time is approximately one week from when the required components are with us, so the total transfer time depends mainly on component availability. The transfer proceeds through a pilot run and first article inspection to series production.
Yes. A non-disclosure agreement can be signed before the product's manufacturing data is shared.
Customer-owned test equipment, test fixtures and test software can be taken into use in our production. If needed, we design the testing together with you.
We have in-house electronics, schematic and PCB layout design expertise, so incomplete documentation can be completed as part of the transfer.
Yes. We have no minimum order quantity and manufacture prototypes, small and medium batches as well as larger production runs, with experience of producing over 5.5 million units.
Yes. We hold an SGS-issued ISO 13485:2016 certificate for medical device quality management, granted in 2019. Read more about our quality management.
