Polarcomp Oy has been manufacturing high quality electronic products since 1994. The company's premises in Kemijärvi are professionally manufacturing electronics from PCB assembly to final products. Specialising in contract manufacturing and subcontracting, the company's products are exported all over the world.
Polarcomp Oy's ISO 13485:2016 certified quality system, continuous quality control and trained, professional staff guarantee good quality and flawless products. In addition, the production is regularly audited by the main suppliers as well as by various certification bodies. The company has always focused on punctual delivery and high quality. Polarcomp Oy's production is regularly audited by the customer companies. This can be done either by the customer's own auditors or by auditing companies as a hired service.
From an idea to a business
Polarcomp Oy was founded in 1994. The founders were two musicians who played gigs in their free time. Initially, production focused on own audio products and audio electronics. Later that year, the company entered into a cooperation agreement with Salcomp to manufacture chargers for Nokia mobile phones.
Assembly line for Nokia chargers
In 1995, the company started manufacturing Nokia chargers on its line from components to finished products. The agreement allowed the company to grow tremendously for the coming years. Charger orders filled the entire capacity of the line despite extensive recruitments.
Charger assembly to be discontinued in Finland
Going into 2001, Polarcomp produced 5.5 million chargers from components to finished products, and the company currently employed 90 people. In 2002, Salcomp decided to transfer the production of chargers to the Chinese market, which also radically affected Polarcomp's order backlog.
The main focus of the assembly line changes
After the production of the chargers ended, the company's assembly line was filled with a large number of orders from different industries. As the most significant order between 2002 and 2005, the company produced power supplies for base stations for Nokia.
From difficulties to victory
It was challenging to fill the gap in the order backlog left by charger orders with other orders. At the beginning of the 2010s, the company scaled down production due to reduced order backlogs. However, in 2017, order volumes started to pick up again and recruitment of employees started.
A new frontier
In 2018, the company made a new foray into the healthcare industry. Since 2019, the company has been certified with the ISO 13485 quality system standard for medical devices. Orders in the healthcare sector allow for steady growth again for the company.
Generational change
In 2022, the original owners decided to retire from business. The new owners' backgrounds are strongly from the software engineering side, which makes it possible to expand the company's services to software development.
